This wine is from 70+ year old Tempranillo vines planted at 700-900 meters above sea level in the Roa de Burgos region of DO Ribera del Duero. After a manual harvest, the fruit is destemmed. 12-day fermentation in stainless steel. Aged for two years in American and French oak that is between 1-3 years old.
Brilliant garnet. Big, spicy nose with intense notes of plum, cassis, cherry, and rosehips. A bit of smoke and earth as well. On the palate, darker fruits with floral nuances - blackberry and currant. Firm, grippy tannins that lean toward leather and tobacco. A surprisingly quenching, fruity finish bursting with acid. I was surprised at this wine. It's a picture of balance. Feel free to drink it now, or hold for another 5 years.
